Protected Mealtimes (England) Policy

Policy Statement

This policy sets out the values, principles and policies underpinning {{org_field_name}}’s approach to the protection of mealtimes.

Missing meals, or experiencing interruptions during the mealtimes, can compromise a person’s nutritional intake, which could have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing.

This purpose of this policy is to protect mealtimes from unnecessary and avoidable interruptions, providing a conducive environment for eating and ensuring that staff are available to support people during mealtimes, putting people at the centre of their mealtime experience.

This policy has also been drawn up in line with guidance from the Hospital Caterers Association. It is in line with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, particularly Regulation 14: Meeting Nutritional and Hydration Needs, which requires for care providers to ensure that an individual’s nutrition and hydration needs are always addressed and met.
