Statutory Notifications of Incidents to the Care Inspectorate (Scotland) Policy
Policy Statement
This policy shows how this adult care service complies with the statutory requirements to notify the Care Inspectorate of incidents that have occurred in the running of the service as required by its registration and regulatory requirements and enabling it to achieve the National Health and Care Standards, My Support, My Life, particularly 4. I have confidence in the organisation providing my care and support.
Procedures
The service recognises that it must notify the Care Inspectorate immediately, using the appropriate on-line form of any of the following.
- Accidents, incidents or injuries to people who use services.
- An outbreak of infectious disease.
- Death of person using a care service.
- Allegations of abuse.
- Significant equipment breakdown that disrupts or impairs the ability to provide a service.
- Allegation of misconduct by a provider or employee.
- Criminal convictions resulting in unfitness of a manager.
- A provider becoming unfit.
- Absence of manager.
- Planned refurbishment/alteration/extension of premises.
- Change of registration details.
- Person living at the registered premises.
Training
Relevant staff are instructed in the service’s notification procedures, which involves:
- studying and understanding the latest Care Inspectorate guidance for making statutory notifications, as made available on its website
- knowing how to complete the correct notification form, making it clear who has made the report and their authority for doing so and the person who should be contacted by the Care Inspectorate.

Next review date: this policy is reviewed annually (every 12 months). When needed, this policy is also updated in response to changes in legislation, regulation, best practices, or organisational changes.
