Private/Individual Accommodation in Care Homes (Scotland) Policy
Policy Statement
This policy sets out the values and principles underpinning {{org_field_name}}’s approach to the accommodation it provides.
People who live here should expect their quality of life to be enhanced by the provision of their own safe, well-maintained and comfortable private bedroom. Everyone who lives here has the right to live their life with privacy, dignity, independence and choice and the quality of the home environment is a key factor in this regard.
It is produced in line with the requirements of the national care standards, My Support, My Life, which require service providers to ensure that people experience high-quality care and that they have confidence in their care providers. To meet the standards, all resident accommodation must be suitable for purpose, clean, secure, properly used, maintained, and appropriately located as reflected in:
- 5.26: As an adult living in a care home, I have my own bedroom that meets my needs but can choose to live with and share a bedroom with my partner, relative or close friend
- 5.27: As an adult living in a care home, I have enough space for me to sit comfortably with a visitor in my bedroom
- 5.28: As an adult living in a care home, I have en-suite facilities with a shower and can choose to use a bath if I want. If I live in a small care home that has not been purpose built, I might need to share a bathroom with other people

People may furnish and organise their room as they wish. However, as part of their conditions and terms of residence, they will be asked to give their consent to allowing staff access to their rooms for the purposes of providing care and to keep the rooms clean and safe in line with current standards and regulations.
