Private Property of People Living in {{org_field_name}} Policy

Policy Statement

People who have moved into {{org_field_name}} should regard their own room as their private space and furnish and decorate it with their own possessions and to their own taste as they wish. The home will provide whatever else is needed to create a pleasing and comfortable environment.

This policy encourages people who have moved into our home to exercise autonomy and choice by personalising their accommodation and facilities.

Private Property of People Living in the Home Policy

1. The home will provide sufficient furniture and furnishings for each person’s private room to create a pleasing and comfortable environment and we will aim to create personal spaces for each person.
2. People who want to provide decoration and furniture for their own rooms will be given every possible encouragement and help.
3. People who move into {{org_field_name}} are entitled, subject to health and safety issues, to bring their own ornaments, wall hangings and other minor and portable items.
4. Larger items of furniture may be brought into and used in a person’s own room after they have been assessed and inspected to ensure that they are safe and of a size which can be accommodated.
5. A record will be kept of all substantial items brought into the home for use in a person’s own room.
6. Items of substantial value should be insured privately by the person or their representatives as set out in the home’s terms and conditions.
7. Exceptionally, with the person’s agreement we will try to accommodate elsewhere in the home any object they want to bring with them but which they cannot place in their own room, provided that any such item enhances the environment for other people living in the home.

Training

Staff receive training in person-centred care, which includes instruction and discussion on how they can help people living in the home to personalise their rooms and facilities.
