Policy Statement
{{org_field_name}} considers that people living here should expect their quality of life to be enhanced by the provision of their own safe, well-maintained and comfortable environment. Everyone has the right to live their life with privacy, dignity, independence and choice and that the quality of the home environment is a key factor in this regard.
This policy meets the requirements of the Regulated Services (Service Providers and Responsible Individuals) (Wales) Regulations 2017 and accompanying statutory guidance with specific reference to:
- Regulation 25: Respect and Sensitivity
- Regulation 44: Premises — Accommodation-based Services Only
- Regulation 48: Facilities and Equipment
- Regulation 56: Hygiene and Infection Control
- Regulation 57: Health and Safety.
Washing Facilities and Toilets Policy
The policy of {{org_field_name}} is to enable the people who live here to wash in privacy and to provide appropriate aids and equipment to facilitate their independence and address their assessed needs, including any risks to their safety. All facilities are designed with people’s safety in mind and in line with risk assessments, which are regularly carried out.
The home regularly reviews its procedures to comply with the latest guidance on infection control and management and standards of cleanliness.
To achieve these aims, the home provides:
- accessible toilets close to lounge and dining areas
- one assisted bath for every eight people
- en-suite facilities with wheelchair access attached to every bedroom containing a toilet and a washbasin
- hand-grab rails in every toilet and bathroom and whatever modifications, adaptations and aids are necessary for individual residents
- doors to all toilets that can be secured on the inside to afford privacy for people, but are of such a design that they can easily be opened from the outside
- adequate domestic resources to ensure that all toilets, wash facilities and bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis and maintained in a sanitary and hygienic condition.

- hot water is stored at temperatures of at least 60°C and distributed at 50°C minimum in line with Health and Safety Executive recommendations for the prevention of legionella
- to prevent risks from scalding, pre-set valves of a type unaffected by changes in water pressure and which have fail-safe devices are fitted to provide water close to 43°C
- all temperatures, thermostats and fittings are regularly checked by a qualified plumbing and heating engineer.

Training
All new staff are trained in the home’s policies and procedures regarding the design, purpose and use of the home’s facilities in line with Social Care Wales: All Wales Induction Framework for Health and Social Care.
All staff receive training to update their knowledge of current developments and safety measures.
