CH46-Protection from Radicalisation and Extremism (Prevent Duty) Policy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines our commitment to preventing radicalisation and extremism within our care home, in line with the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 and the Prevent Duty Guidance for England and Wales. Our objective is to protect the people we support, staff, and visitors from exposure to extremist views and radicalisation, ensuring that our care environment is safe, inclusive, and free from any form of extremism or coercion.
Our care home is committed to: Ensuring that all individuals in our care are safe from extremist ideologies; Training staff to recognise signs of radicalisation and extremism; Providing a supportive and open culture where concerns can be raised; Complying with the statutory Prevent Duty as part of our safeguarding responsibilities; Working collaboratively with local authorities, law enforcement, and safeguarding partners.
2. Scope
This policy applies to: All staff, volunteers, and management in our care home; The people we support and their families; Visitors, contractors, and any individuals interacting with our care environment. It covers: Identifying risks of radicalisation and extremism; Training staff to spot warning signs; Reporting concerns through appropriate safeguarding channels; Working with multi-agency partners to prevent radicalisation.

4. Identifying and Preventing Radicalisation
4.1 Understanding Radicalisation and Extremism
Radicalisation refers to the process by which individuals come to support terrorism and extremist ideologies. Extremism is defined as vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
4.2 Identifying Signs of Radicalisation
Staff should be aware of key indicators of radicalisation, including: Drastic changes in behaviour, withdrawal, or increased secrecy; Expressing extremist views or justifying violence; Using online platforms or social media to access extremist material; Associating with known extremists or being influenced by radical groups; Refusing to engage with individuals from different backgrounds.
4.3 Preventing Radicalisation in the Care Home
To reduce the risk of radicalisation: All staff will receive Prevent Duty training to understand the signs and reporting process; A culture of openness and respect will be promoted, ensuring people feel safe expressing concerns; Access to harmful materials will be monitored and restricted, including internet usage in communal areas; Engagement in diverse and inclusive activities will be encouraged to support positive social interactions.
5. Reporting and Managing Concerns
5.1 Internal Reporting
If a staff member has concerns about radicalisation, they must: Report immediately to the Safeguarding Lead ({{org_field_safeguarding_lead_name}}); Record their concerns in the safeguarding log with factual observations; Discuss concerns confidentially with the Registered Manager.
5.2 External Reporting and Multi-Agency Collaboration

6. Staff Training and Responsibilities
6.1 Staff Responsibilities
All staff are responsible for: Recognising early signs of radicalisation and reporting concerns; Providing support and safeguarding individuals at risk; Challenging extremist views in a constructive and lawful manner.
6.2 Training Requirements
To ensure compliance with Prevent Duty, staff will receive: Mandatory Prevent Duty training upon induction; Ongoing refresher training on radicalisation risks; Scenario-based learning to identify real-world signs of extremism.
7. Monitoring and Compliance
To ensure effective implementation of Prevent Duty: Safeguarding audits will include radicalisation risk assessments; All reported concerns will be reviewed in staff meetings; Multi-agency collaboration will be regularly assessed for effectiveness; Feedback from staff, individuals, and families will be collected to improve awareness and practices.
